Large crafts and Puppetry
Maury Fitzgerald. A large sea serpent/dragon made for Iowa State University's production of The Magic Flute. Maury's structure is based on traditional Chinese new year parade dragons. Maury was constructed out of Veraform and Fuzzform, and then painted.
Creepella. A hat made for the character of the Old Witch in Iowa State University's production of Into the Woods. The director and I were both against using a heavy makeup appliance to age the young actress playing the Witch. I suggested the idea of the actress wearing a hat that had an old deformed face on it, the idea being that the hat was her "old" face while her inner youth and beauty was hidden inside waiting for the spell to be broken. When the spell was broken the Witch throws off the hat and she is instantly young and beautiful.
The Harp. It was decided very early on that the Harp in Iowa State University's production of Into the Woods would be an actor, not a prop. This costume piece is made from a skeleton of wire covered with Vera Form and then gold leafed. It is attached to a canvas vest that is worn under the actor's costume.
